Society

Definition

The community of people living in a particular reign and having shared customs, laws and organizations.

Concept

The term society is derived from the Latin word "Socius" , which means association or companionship. Thus society means a large group of individuals who are associative with each other. Two primary components of society are its culture and its social structure.

Types of Society

 i. Hunting And Gathering Societies

The oldest and the simplest type of society is the hunting and gathering society. The use of simple tools to hunt animals and gather vegetation is the feature of this society Today just a few remains, include the Bushmen of Southwestern Africa and Route of Nepal.

ii. Pastoral Societies 

Members of pastoral societies, which first emerged 12,000 years ago, pasture animals for food and transportation. Pastoral societies still exist today, primarily in the desert lands of North Africa where horticulture and manufacturing aren't possible.

iii. Horticulture Societies 

Ten thousand years ago, a new technology began to change the lives of people. They discovered horticulture. the use of hand tools to cultivate crops. Grurumba Tribe in New Guinea and Masai people of Kenya are some existing examples of this type of societies.

iv. Agrarian Societies

Agrarian societies use technological advances to cultivate crops-especially grains like wheat, rice, corn and barley-over a large area. Pakistani society is somehow like this type of societies, especially the rural areas of Punjab and Sindh.

v. Feudal Societies

Feudalism was a form of society based on ownership of land. Unlike today's farmers, vassals under feudalism were bound to cultivating their lord's land. This happens in many rural areas of Pakistan and India.

vi. Industrial Societies

Industrial mode of production began in England about 250 years ago. An industrial society is a system in which large number of labor and machinery is involved in production of goods and services. The most populated country of the world China, is the most successful example of industrial society and you're very probably very familiar with the phrase " Made in China", which shows that china is leading the industrial race.

vii. Post - Industrial Societies

Post-industrial societies are societies dominated by information, services and high technology more than the production of goods. Post-industrial society is the era in which computer microchip was created and the world is witnessing a technological revolution. Most of the Europe is composed of post-industrial societies. Outside of Europe, the United State, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and now South Korea.
